The ninth month of pregnancy can feel like it lasts a year, and in the middle of summer, can feel even longer! Looking for ways to pass the time?  We’ve compiled a list of nine things you could do in summer here in Winston-Salem.

1. Visit Old Salem– Old Salem Museum and Gardens is a restored Moravian community, and while an admission ticket is needed to venture inside many of the houses and museums, you can wander around the beautiful old brick roads anytime. Visit the bakery, enjoy a picnic on the grassy knoll outside Salem College, and maybe even stop to take a pregnancy picture with the giant coffee pot at the north end of this historic district! 900 Old Salem Rd, Winston-Salem, NC 27101

2. Get a haircut– We recently had a postpartum client tell us how much she wished she gotten a haircut before she had her baby! Time is often at a premium after baby comes. Sit in the air conditioning and let your stylist give you the perfect pregnancy do!

3.  See a baseball game–Take you and your belly baby out to the ballgame!  Cheer on our local minor league baseball team, the Winston-Salem Dash!  We are fortunate to have a lovely ballpark in downtown Winston-Salem.  Satisfy your pregnancy cravings with a ballpark dinner, and sit back and enjoy the game.  Check the calendar to see which dates have after game fireworks for an extra special treat!  A source at the Dash says seats near the third base line tend to be shadiest.  951 Ballpark Way, Winston-Salem, NC 27101

4. Indulge at Black Mountain Chocolate Factory!– Did you know we have our very own chocolate factory here in Winston-Salem? Black Mountain Chocolate makes delicious chocolate, and they do it all right here, from beans to the bar! While they have a line of packaged chocolate bars that will rival any you’ve ever tasted (our favorite is the sea salt!), they also have an array of incredible bakery items, baked fresh at their facility, and a great selection of gelato! Get a scoop, cool off, and watch chocolate being made in their visible chocolate factory! 732 Trade St NW, Winston-Salem, NC 27101

5. Relax with a prenatal massage– A dark, air-conditioned room, soft music playing and a massage therapist working out all that ninth month tension? Yes please! A prenatal massage can be a wonderful distraction during those last few weeks of pregnancy, especially when the weather is sweltering outside. Be sure the massage therapist you use knows how to do prenatal! One option is Moonstone Massage, 1401 Old Mill Circle, Suite B Winston-Salem, NC 27103

6. Take a dip!– Tanglewood Park has a lovely water park! While Tanglewood also boasts plenty of space for walking and picnicking in the shade, you could also opt for a swim at their water park. If you have small children, they will enjoy the splash pad and water slides the pool offers. Cool off and enjoy the water’s caress! If you have any concerns and about swimming activities, check with your care provider. 4201 Manor House Circle, Clemmons, NC 27012
7. See a movie– Air conditioning, popcorn, dark, and a good movie-all of that equals some fantastic ninth month distraction! We are lucky to have several different movie theaters around Winston-Salem. Grab your partner, a snack and go see a show!
