Becky Hale, Owner

Birth doula, postpartum doula, childbirth educator (Birth doula team member)

Labor, birth and parenthood are incredibly awesome, wild and wonderful journeys, and I love helping my clients along that journey! I’m a caretaker by nature, and comforting and supporting my clients comes naturally. I love every bit of helping people and their partners through the experience of birth, whether that occurs in a birth pool or the operating room.

I trained as a birth doula in 2007 with DONA International.   I’ve also trained with other organizations (I’m a lover of workshops and continuing education). I was a professional Mary Poppins for nearly 20 years, nannying for many families in the Greensboro and Winston-Salem areas of NC, taking care of children from newborn through the teen years. I’ve nannied and been and a postpartum doula for several families with twins, and love helping with multiples! My many years of nanny care give me a unique insight into that beautiful, sweet but exhausting postpartum period, and I enjoy helping my clients thrive and feel confident as new parents. I’ve seen first-hand the difference having doula makes, and I feel strongly that every type of birth and every type of family benefits from doula care. My biggest wishes for our clients are that they feel informed and prepared, make all their own decisions, and feel fully supported during their birth. I’ve taken continuing education with Spinning Babies and I love to discuss the great merits of the peanut ball in birth.

I’ve been a doula for over 19 years, and have attended to over 1,000 clients. I have experience with many different types of families and births, including water birth, medicated births, inductions, twins, natural births, VBAC, and planned cesarean births.  I have held hundreds of babies AND moms during the postpartum period as a postpartum doula. I am a long-time member of DONA International.

Abby Steffen joined the Piedmont Doulas team in 2021 and is our Lead Birth Doula and administrative assistant.  As a certified full spectrum doula (CD, Doula Trainings International), Abby is passionate about supporting families before, during, and after childbirth.  Her goal is to help facilitate safe, positive, and empowering birth experiences.  Abby is a certified Hypnobabies HypnoDoula, has training in Spinning Babies techniques, is a Bridge To Breastfeeding Facilitator, and a Movement Moments Infant Massage provider and instructor. She is working through her bereavement doula certification and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor certification.

Abby has two children and was a gestational surrogate as well, and having doulas attend all of her births inspired her to pursue her doula certification. Abby is also a licensed massage and bodywork therapist (NC License #1969) since 2000.  She specializes in a number of different modalities including prenatal massage, infant massage, therapeutic massage, and myofascial release massage.  Abby teaches our monthly infant massage class and also offers prenatal and infant massage sessions at a discounted rate for our clients.
